Bear Glacier

The town of Stewart, British Columbia (our next stop on the trip) is on a 30 mile long a spur road from the Cassiar Highway. It winds along the Bear River similar to the old Glenwood Canyon road. The road sits on a narrow stretch of land along the steep cliff and shares the canyon with the river. At this point it opens up and the Bear Glacier empties into the lake. The glacier is receding- the edge was just about at the lake back in 2003. Like many of the roads here, it was not completed until the 1970s. Before that the only ways to the town were air or boat.
