There is no structure across the Yukon River in Dawson City. In the winter the river freezes and there is an ice bridge. Well- mostly. This past winter the river ice was not stable enough for a bridge. While the Top of the World highway is closed in the winter, there are still businesses and residents in West Dawson. It's a challenge most communities never face! In the summer there is a ferry. We were fortunate that there was no line and even though we just missed one, it only takes about 20-30 minutes for it to go across and come back.
