Most Alaskans refer to the mosquito as their status bird! They are sort-of joking. We have been VERY fortunate on this trip. Cooler weather and some wind have kept them manageable. Giant mosquito statues are a big thing here. There have been many along the way. We stopped to see these in Delta Junction.
