Pipeline Suspension Bridge

There are many creative engineering solutions along the 800 miles of the Alaska pipeline. To cross this river they built a suspension bridge for the pipe. The car bridge is not nearly as complex (and is much older).

For most river crossings they diverted the water and buried the pipe underneath.

Cars on the left, oil on the right.

Silver parked in front gives a perspective on the size of the structure. There is also a bend in the pipe here. We learned that the pig- (for cleaning the inside of the pipe) is flexible and can make the turns!
