The Homer Spit

There is a 4 1/2 mile long strip of land that extends from Homer into Kachemak Bay. The ferry dock is at the very end and the boat marina is on the protected side. There is a lovely walking path and businesses in tiny buildings built on sticks.

This is one of the original buildings. It's a saloon that has been moved several times.

The tides here have some of the greatest difference anywhere on the planet. The low and high tide levels can be up to 20 feet apart.

By the time we finished our walk this sand bar was completely covered!
