We took a train on a short loop from the pipeline through an old mining camp to Dredge #8. (It's another tour run by the Binkley family. It was very informative and well done. Both this and the riverboat felt a bit like Disney Land but were great ways to see and learn.)
This is how they originally mined this area- they dug a deep shaft and used a winch to get the pay dirt out and to the sluice box.
