Bear Creek Fish Weir

Another spot our new friend Carolyn recommended. A fish weir is a man made structure designed to direct the path of the salmon as they swim upstream. This one on Bear Creek, just outside of Seward, forces them to swim into a small hatchery. It's a big leap to get up the waterfall and it's fun to watch them try. It's amazing that they can jump so high and with such force! Many wash back down and have to go at it again.
